Chattogram district administration today recovered about 100 acres of government land with 15 ponds from city’s coastal North Kattali area.



Chattogram district administration today recovered about 100 acres of government land with 15 ponds from city’s coastal North Kattali area.

Omar Faruk, Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (land), Kattali Circle, conducted the drive at North Kattoli area from 9 am to 3 pm.

Employees of the District administration, members of Chattagram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and representatives from Power Development Board took part in the drive.

District Administration sources said, a group of people had been illegally occupied some 100 acres of government land with 15 ponds in the area for a long time.

Recently, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chattagram Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman noticed the abandoned land.

Later, he directed the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kattali circle to recover the ponds along with government land.

Omar Faruk told BSS that about 100 acres of land worth about TK 100 crore which was occupied by a group of people illegally for a long time that was recovered today through the drive.

 “About 30 small and big illegal structures were also evicted in the operation. Besides, the electricity connections were cancelled from the land. A total of 10 government signboards were set up with instructions to prevent illegal encroachment,” he added.

The DC told BSS that about 194 acres of government land has already been recovered from city’s coastal North Kattali area recently. In continuation with that, we have recovered about 100 acres of government land with 15 ponds today.

 DC Fakhruzzaman said, Mangrove forest, protected forest, cycling track and  endangered wildlife conservation center will be developed with about 750 acres of land along with Marine Drive.

He also said that full-time Ansar members have been deployed to prevent illegal encroachment of the recovered area.

“A total of 10 government signboards were set up with instructions to prevent illegal encroachment and strict legal action will be taken against the illegal occupants,” he added.
