The rail connectivity of Chattogram, Sylhet, Noakhali with Dhaka has been restored after a 14-hour suspension following the derailment of a freight train in Brahmanbaria, a key point on the routes.
Rail station and local sources said a Dhaka-bound container train from Chattogram reached the collegepara area of eastern side of the level crossing of Brahmanbaria and derailed around 8:30 am on Sunday.
Later, the Assistant Executive Engineer of Akhaura Railway and his team started the rescue work around 10:30 am.
Brahmanbaria Railway Station Master Md Jasim Uddin said the rescue operation of the freight train was completed at 7:05 pm. However, train services resumed at 10.30 pm.
