Woman returns home 6 months after family `buried’ her

The bizarre incident happened in Kharial-Chowka village of Mankasha union of the upazila. The woman is identified as Babi Khatun, daughter of Golam Rosul.



A woman returned home six months after she was assumed dead by her family and later buried in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

The bizarre incident happened in Kharial-Chowka village of Mankasha union of the upazila. The woman is identified as Babi Khatun, daughter of Golam Rosul.

It was known that police found a body in a pond in Lilikhili intersection on July 26, 2023. Later, Babi’s family identified it checking the dress and later buried the body.

Following the issue, police filed a case with Sadar police station and arrested a suspected youth named Rubel Ali.

Jarzes Ali, a dweller of the area said local here knew that Babi Khatun is dead. But, Babi Khatun suddenly retuned home on Wednesday. That makes people astonished.

Family members of Rubel said, there was dispute between Rubel and a local man Fahim. At one stage of clash, Rubel took mobile phone of Fahim. Later, claiming Fahim as husband, Babi phoned Rubel. Then, Rubel returned the phone. However, the victim Babi Khatun went missing on that night. Later, a body was found floating in a pond in the area.

On the other hand, Babi Khatun claimed Rubel and his cohorts took her to Gomostapur and fled the scene after torturing her. She was rescued by locals. Later, she met Mazed Ali and got married.

Chapainawabganj Sadar Model police station OC Mintu Rahman said investigation is underway in this regard.
