Pabna, 20 Feb - A 32-year-old man had both his wrists severed by a group of miscreants in Santhia upazila of Pabna on Thursday.
The incident occurred near the Sathia Telephone Exchange office, said Santhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saidur Rahman.
The victim was indetified as Ashraful, a resident of Collegepara in Sathia Municipality and the son of Nur Islam, is a warrant-listed accused in nine cases, including theft, robbery among others, said the OC.
Around 1 pm, eight to 10 miscreants forcibly took him to a walled area of the Digital (Telephone) Exchange office. Using sharp weapons, they severed both his wrists, said police.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the scene, prompting the attackers to flee. Ashraful was initially taken to Santhia Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, the on-duty doctor referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Around 4 PM, his relatives transported him to Dhaka for further care.
Police visited the scene and recovered one of his severed wrists (the right wrist) near the Telephone Exchange office around 4:15 PM. As of 4:30 PM, the other wrist had not been found.
Sathia Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Abdul Baten said Ashraful was admitted with both wrists severed. "His condition is critical, and he requires urgent surgery," he added.
Police were investigating the matter, and legal action will be taken if a formal complaint is filed, said the OC.
