Three people, including an imam, were killed in a violent clash between two neighboring families over a long-standing land dispute in Ukhiya upazila, Cox’s Bazar, on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Abdullah Al Mamun, the imam of Kutupalong Jame Mosque, and his neighbors Abdul Mannan and Shahina Begum, both residents of Paschimpara in the Kutupalong union. Mannan and Shahina were siblings.

According to Mohammad Ali, General Secretary of the Kutupalong Bazar Committee, the deadly altercation stemmed from a prolonged dispute between the two families over the construction of a boundary wall. The conflict escalated early Sunday morning, with both parties reportedly using locally-made sharp weapons to attack each other.

The confrontation tragically resulted in the deaths of all three individuals at the scene, confirmed Arif Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya police station. Following the incident, police recovered the bodies and sent them to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Authorities have stated that legal actions will be pursued as investigations into the incident continue.
