Police recovered the body of a farmer from a field in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ali, 45, son of late Idris Ali of Garamara village under Holidhani union of the upazila.

Locals said the victim had gone to work in the field earlier in the afternoon but did not return home. Later in the evening, other farmers found his body lying in the field around 10pm and informed his family members, who then notified the police.

Farmer Shahjahan Ali said while returning from the field, they spotted Ali’s body in Montu Mia’s paddy field. There were marks of injuries on his neck and around his navel.

Later police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Sadar police station, Abdullah Al Mamun, said as an investigation was underway and it is not yet clear whether the death was due to homicide or a lightning strike, reports UNB.

The cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report, he added.
