Two Sherpur farmers killed in wild elephant attacks

Two farmers were killed in separate wild elephant attacks in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur on Tuesday night, within a span of just one and a half hours.


The victims were identified as Azizur Rahman Akash, 45, son of Abdul Hakim of Darbeshchala village and tribal Philip Marc, 42, of Ghazni area of the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Jhenaigati police station Al-Amin said the two herds of elephants descended into the localities from hills on Tuesday night in search of food, reports UNB.

Akash and Marc were critically injured when the herds of elephants attacked them after being barred from taking food from croplands in the Darbeshchala and Ghazni areas around 8:30pm and 10pm, he said.

They were taken to the upazila health complex where physicians declared them dead, the OC added.
