5 killed after suspected alcohol poisoning in Khulna

Five people died while another remains hospitalised in critical condition after reportedly consuming excessive spurious liquor in the Boyra Puja Khola Islamia College area under Sonadanga Model Police Station in Khulna on Saturday.


The deceased were identified as Babu, 50, son of Abdur Rob from Boyra Serer Bazar; Sabu, 60, son of Abdus Samad from Boyra Madhyapara; Gautam Kumar Biswas, 47; Ajibar, 59; and Tota, 60 – all residents of Boyra Junction Road area.

Sonadanga Model Police Station’s Operation Officer SI Abdul Hai confirmed the deaths.

Sonu, a resident of Khalishpur Daspara area, has been admitted to Khulna Specialized Hospital and is currently on life support due to his critical condition.

Family members have taken the bodies of the deceased to their respective homes.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether the liquor was illicit or contaminated, and an investigation is underway, reports UNB.
