The clash broke out around 11:30am and continued until 1pm between the groups of Masuk Mia and Mufachchir Mia at Jashkeshari village under Shibpasha union.
According to police and locals, the feud began when Rabel Mia (12), son of Alkas Mia, sold a toy battery to Naim (13), son of Nabi Mia, about 10–12 days ago. Naim did not pay the remaining Tk 40, leading to an altercation between the two families. Locals had earlier tried to settle the matter through arbitration on Friday.
However, on Thursday morning, a fresh altercation broke out between Nabi Mia and Alkas Mia. At one stage, both groups armed with local weapons engaged in a fierce clash, leaving at least 30 people injured.
The injured were taken to Baniachong Upazila Health Complex and other nearby hospitals, reports UNB.
Azmiriganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam said the clash stemmed from a Tk 40 dispute between the children. “Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The situation is now normal,” he added.
