The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 420,000 yaba tablets from the Tumbro border area in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.

A special patrol team of Tumbro Border Outpost (BOP), under Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), conducted the operation early today based on intelligence report, according to a BGB press release issued here this afternoon.

The team took position at Nayapara, around 100 yards inside Bangladesh from the international border. At about 4:30 am, the patrol team detected suspicious movement of several people using a thermal imaging device.

As the BGB personnel moved to intercept them, the smugglers fled towards Myanmar in the  darkness  leaving the consignment behind, reports BSS.

The patrol team subsequently searched the area and recovered three bags wrapped in lungis. The bags contained 420,000 Burmese yaba tablets, the release said.

No smuggler was arrested in the operation.

Legal proceedings regarding the seized yaba tablets are underway, the release added.
