Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and SRB in a joint operation seized 3.90 lakh yaba tablets and arrested a suspected drug trafficker in the Teknaf border area of Cox’s Bazar.

The detainee was identified as Md Idris, 40, son of late Abdul Hakim of Deilpara village in Teknaf, said a BGB press release issued here this afternoon.

Acting on intelligence information, a joint team of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) and SRB took up positions near the Naf River in the Nazirpara BOP area at around 7:30 pm on Sunday.

Later, a special patrol team of Teknaf BOP detected several suspected persons coming from Myanmar using a thermal imager. The joint team kept them under close surveillance.

At around 2:30 am today, the suspects were seen swimming into Bangladesh carrying sacks, according to the release.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcement team, they attempted to flee towards a nearby Keora Forest.

The joint team chased them and arrested one person with three large packets containing 390,000 yaba tablets, the BGB said.

Legal proceedings are underway to hand over the detainee and the seized yaba to Teknaf Model Police Station for filing a case, reports BSS.
