DU students stage sit-in for end to accommodation crisis
A section of students of Dhaka University on Tuesday staged sit-in in front of the Vice-Chancellorâs (VC) residence, demanding an end to the accommodation crisis in the residential halls.The protesters, led by Dhaka University Central Studentsâ Union (Ducsu) member Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, tried to enter the VCâs house around 10.45 am while the universityâs proctorial team obstructed them.
Then the protesters took position in front of the VCâs residence on the campus at 10: 50 am with placards.
Taking to reporters Tanbir said, âThe university administration has totally failed to solve the accommodation crisis. Actually they donât want to resolve the problem that’s why they didnât take any effective steps.â
âIf the authorities were really sincere, they would have evicted the illegal occupants from the halls,â he added.
On October 1, the students gave a 15-day ultimatum to DU VC Prof M Akhtaruzzman to resolve the accommodation crisis.
The students also threatened to take shelter at DU VC Prof M Akhtaruzzmanâs residence if he fails to find a solution to the crisis, reports UNB.
