Election Commissioner Abdul Mobarak, who has been in charge of the Election Commission in absence of the chief election commissioner, has received a death threat.
The threat was issued in a call to his mobile phone at 12:10pm on Sunday while other commissioners were present, the commissioner told reporters. The caller ID was withheld, he said.
Mobarak’s personal secretary has filed a general diary at the Sher-e-Bangla Police Station.
According to Mobarak, the caller said, “I am your nemesis. Your time is up. Soon your wife will be widowed and your children orphaned.”
Election Commissioners Abu Hafiz, Jabed Ali and Md Shah Newaz were in Mobarak’s room discussing the Upazila elections during the incident.
