Education Ministry asked to take action against overnight torture

Mymensingh, Oct 23 – A first year student of Animal Husbandry faculty named Maqsudul Haque Emu was tortured overnight at room number east-5 of the hall on last 5 August for not giving salaam to the BCL president of Shaheed Jamal Hossain Hall of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).With the direction of the hall president Dipok Haldar others leaders of the hall got fierce upon Emu. At that time, BCL leaders beat him with a stump. After the incident, a news item was published in various national dailies and online newspapers on the occurrence.
Referring to this occurrence, the Education Ministry has asked to know what action the university has taken against the culprits. A letter signed by Nilima Afroz the assistant secretary of the ministry, asked to take necessary action against the occurrence within next seven working days. Shahadat Hossain Shawon and Library Secretary Md. Rahat Hossain were involved in the torture occurrence. They called Emu at room East-5 around mid-night and tortured till late-night.
The next day of the occurrence, a three-member investigation committee was formed by the university administration. A notice was given signed by acting register Md Saiful Islam on the investigation committee. The investigation committee includes Professor Dr A K M Zakir Hossain of Crop Botany department, associate student affair adviser Professor Md Azharul Islam and assistant proctor Dr Chayon Goswami. .
