Chief Election Commission (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal

Jehangir Hussain

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said on Wednesday that the 12th general election will be held in December.

He told reporters at his office that polling in by elections six constituencies was peaceful, but  voter turnout was relatively low, ranging between approximately 15 to 25 per cent.

He said that no significant irregularities were found but at some places there were chases and a couple of cocktails were exploded.

In response to question regarding  vote robbers entering poling booth in Brahmanbaria, he said at one centre, a woman voter entered the booth with her two children.

At another centre a lady entered to vote for a sick man, he said.

“We do not consider these to be serious or widespread irregularities,” he said.
