(UNB) – The Election Commission will brief the heads of foreign embassies and multilateral agencies stationed in Bangladesh ahead of the upcoming national election slated for January 7, 2024.
The commission is inviting the foreign diplomats for a meeting at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel at 3:00pm on January 4, three days ahead of the election. The resident representative of UNDP Bangladesh and heads of international agencies are also being invited for the meeting.
In the meeting, the EC headed by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal will raise its preparation and steps to hold the 12th parliamentary elections in a free and fair manner, said EC officials.
The Commission has already sent a letter to the foreign secretary asking to take necessary steps to ensure the presence of the foreign diplomats.
Out of 44 registered political parties, 27 parties are participating in the general election, while BNP and some other parties are boycotting the polls.
Some 1895 candidates across the country’s 300 constituencies are running in the national election.
