Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday announced that the government is prepared to hand over power to the elected representatives, having already set the election timetable.

Speaking in Kuala Lumpur while engaging with Bangladeshi expatriates, he emphasised efforts to ensure voting rights for overseas Bangladeshis in the upcoming election. Preparations with the Election Commission are underway to enable expatriate voting for the first time.

Prof Yunus expressed gratitude to expatriates for their significant economic contributions and pledged to recognise their role by facilitating their participation in the electoral process.

He noted that since taking office, the government has actively engaged with the expatriate community to address their concerns, including resolving passport issues and launching the ‘Nagorik Seba Bangladesh’ initiative to provide streamlined government services abroad. A special app is also being developed to connect Bangladeshis worldwide on one platform.

The meeting addressed various challenges faced by Bangladeshi expatriates in Malaysia, including discussions with local authorities on increasing embassy manpower, granting Graduate Plus visas to students, regularising irregular workers, and enhancing trade and industry cooperation.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and Expatriates’ Welfare Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul attended the gathering, which included representatives from diverse professional and business sectors.
