Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that approximately 2.1 million deceased voters have been removed from Bangladesh’s electoral roll ahead of the upcoming national elections, as part of efforts to ensure a credible and accurate voter list.

The CEC stated that the Election Commission is conducting a thorough door-to-door verification process nationwide to update the voter list, remove inaccuracies, and prevent fraudulent entries.

He disclosed the figures on Sunday during a dialogue with civil society representatives at the Election Commission Secretariat Conference Room in Agargaon, Dhaka. The discussion focused on the commission’s preparations for the 13th national elections, highlighting measures to strengthen electoral integrity and transparency.

The removal of deceased voters underscores the Election Commission’s commitment to maintaining a reliable and trustworthy electoral system, ensuring that all eligible citizens can exercise their voting rights without discrepancies.
