No confusion over polls; we’re well prepared: Alam

“Those who are still spreading confusion about the election, we see their profiles are very clear. What was their role before? Why are they spreading confusion? There are 37 days left for the election. We think we are very well prepared,” said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.

Meanwhile, he said, the confidence level of the security forces - police, military and BGB - is a little better now as they have managed three big events in a row.

Responding to a question during a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, Alam said there have never been such big events in the history of Bangladesh as he referred youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi's funeral, a big political rally following BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman's return to the country and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's funeral.

“If you look at the presence in terms of crowd and numbers, there have never been such big events in Bangladesh,” he said.

Asked about the security of political leaders, the Press Secretary said they have talked to the political parties and many of them have been given gunmen. “You will get the entire list from the police. You will get it from the political parties. Many do not want to talk about this. That is why we are not saying anything.”

He said the security of the political party leaders is definitely one of their top priorities and the police are working on it, especially the special branch of the police.

“And after that, if they want security from the local level, then of course the police will provide that,” said the Press Secretary.

Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad also spoke at the media briefing, reports UNB.
