Govt Employees Face Action for Lobbying Over Job Matters

Government employees who use others to lobby officials on their behalf over job-related matters will face departmental action, according to a directive from the Cabinet Division.

In a letter issued on Thursday, the Cabinet Division instructed senior secretaries, secretaries, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers to take action against employees involved in such lobbying.

The letter said lobbying on behalf of a government employee violates Rule 20 of the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1979, and constitutes misconduct under Rule 2(b) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.

Details of any such lobbying must also be recorded in the employee’s service dossier, it said.

However, employees may submit job-related applications through the proper channels to their controlling ministry, department or authority.

The directive said such applications should be disposed of within a maximum of one month.
