Summit LNG supply resumes at 550 MMCFD after brief disruption
Summit LNG Terminal has resumed supplying around 550 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to Bangladesh national gas grid after a brief disruption caused by rough seas on Thursday.
The increased supply is expected to help improve gas availability for industries, power generation and other consumers, supporting economic activity and reducing pressure on the country’s energy system, according to a statement from Summit Group.
Summit LNG remains committed to maintaining safe and reliable operations and maximising gas delivery within the technical capacity of the terminal and the national transmission system.
Summit believes that ensuring adequate and uninterrupted energy supply is essential for Bangladesh’s industrial growth, employment and economic development.
The company will continue working closely with Petrobangla and the Government of Bangladesh to support the country’s energy security and help alleviate gas shortages, it added.
The country’s gas crisis deepened following the suspension of gas supply from the Summit LNG terminal in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar at around 5pm on August 13, as rough seas prevented an LNG cargo from being connected to the terminal, reports UNB.
Earlier, a fire at Excelerate Energy’s LNG terminal cut its gas supply capacity by half.
