Dhaka Load Shedding Adjusted to Boost Rural Power Supply

The government has decided to adjust load shedding in Dhaka to redirect more electricity to rural areas amid an ongoing power shortage, the Power Division said on Tuesday.

The move comes as many rural areas have been experiencing prolonged power cuts due to a severe shortage of gas, which has reduced electricity generation.

Under the initiative, load shedding in Dhaka will be managed in a way that allows additional electricity to be supplied to areas outside the capital where shortages have been particularly acute.

The country’s power crisis has worsened in recent weeks as shortages of gas and liquefied natural gas have disrupted power generation.

Rural areas have at times faced 10 to 12 hours of load shedding a day, creating significant difficulties for households and businesses.

Data from Power Grid Bangladesh also show substantial gaps between electricity demand and supply in recent days, highlighting continued pressure on the national power grid.

The initiative is aimed at making better use of available electricity and reducing the severity of power cuts in rural areas while managing supply constraints in the capital.
