Dhaka, January 12: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said that roof gardens are necessary for safe food free of toxins and clean air in the city.

People will benefit if the roofs of the capital can be turned into gardens. It reduces carbon emissions, controls temperature and improves air quality. Everyone can play a role in protecting the environment by gardening on their own roofs.

The advisor said this in his chief guest speech at a seminar titled ‘Importance of Rooftop Gardens in Reducing Global Warming’ at the National Press Club in Dhaka today.

The advisor said that roof gardens help in mental health and food security as well as the environment. The fear of roofs collapsing under the weight of gardens is a misconception.
