Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today called on Switzerland to support Bangladesh’s carbon retention initiatives in the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, which plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change. He made this appeal during a meeting with Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The two leaders discussed a range of topics, including economic cooperation, climate financing, and strategies to address global environmental challenges. Professor Yunus emphasized the importance of international collaboration to protect the Sundarbans, which is vital to both Bangladesh’s environmental health and global climate resilience.

In addition, Professor Yunus encouraged Switzerland to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh, particularly in sectors that can harness the potential of the country’s young population, with half of the nation’s people under the age of 27. He highlighted that tapping into this demographic could drive significant economic growth and innovation.

Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, briefed reporters on the positive outcomes of the meeting, underscoring the strong commitment from both sides to strengthen bilateral ties and pursue sustainable development goals.
