Govt plans to prevent further river damage: Adviser

She said, "We have little control over upstream activities, and damming has reduced river flows. Therefore, the government is formulating plans to prevent further damage to the rivers in this region."

Rizwana Hasan made these remarks during an inspection of water flow in the Baral River basin and the Atgharia Regulator in Baraigram, Natore, on Monday afternoon.

She expressed concern over environmental degradation caused by brick kilns, stating that a priority-based plan will be implemented to regulate brick kiln operations.

She mentioned that no brick kilns will be permitted in mountainous areas.

Rizwana also said that Dhaka currently has the world's highest air pollution levels. To address this, Dhaka will be declared a no-brickfield zone, and plans for producing alternative bricks were discussed, though these initiatives have yet to gain traction.

The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Asma Shaheen, Superintendent of Police Amjad Hossain, along with officials from the Water Development Board, Barendra Development Authority, and BADC, reports UNB.
