Farmers expect bumper jute output in Khulna

Farmers in 10 districts of Khulna division are expecting a bumper
production of ‘golden fibre Jute’ in the current seasson.
Agriculture Extention Depertment (AED) sources said, a total of
2,03,063 hectares of land were brought under Jute cultivation here
with the production target of 22,11,552 bels of jute.
District wise break up of land is as follows: 27,769 hectares of land
were brought in Jessore district with the production target of
3,01,924 bels of Jute, 22,266 hectares in Narail with the target of
2,42,662 bels, 23,689 hectares in Jhenaidah with the target of
2,55,953 bels, 32,159 hectares in Magura with the target of 3,50,533
bels,36,509 hectares in Kushtia with the target of 3,57,948 bels of
Jute.
Besides, 22,157 hectares of land in Chuadanga with the target of
2,41,511 bels of Jute, 23,630 hectares in Meherpur with the target of
2,57,567 bels, 10,398 hectares in Satkhira with the target of 1,13,338
bels, 3,222 hectares in Khulna with the target of 34,651 bels and
1,264 hectares of land in Bagerhat district with the production target
of 13,742 bels of Jute.
The officials of DAE particularly sub-assistant agriculture officers
in field level are motivating the farmers to cultivate Jute on their
land is large scale to meet its demand for all jute mills and to make
the growers economically benefit as well.
Additional Director of Jessore regional DAE Abdul Mannan told BSS that
necessary steps have been taken to ensure supply of adequate quantity
of improved quality seeds and other agricultural inputs among the
growers in fair prices to boost Jute cultivation.
Field workers and crop specialists of the DAE helped the farmers to
make the Jute cultivation programme success in the current season,
said Chabi Hari Das, deputy director of Narail DAE.
