Khulna shopkeepers see rush of buyers at markets ahead of Eid

Khulna, Apr 6 – Shoppers in Khulna are flocking to shopping malls and markets to buy new clothes, shoes, jewellery, and other items ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest festivals for Muslims.

Shops in malls and markets in Khulna city are putting on display colorful dresses, saris and shoes to draw the attention of shoppers.

Ramadan is one of the busiest times for shopowners, and this year they are expecting good Eid sales.

Every day, shoppers from different parts of Khulna city and remote areas are going to shopping malls and markets with their families to purchase new clothes and shoes at affordable prices.

During a recent visit to Khulna Modern Shopping Mall, Biponibitan Market, New Market, Jalil Tower, Swapnil, Dak Bangla Super Market, Shaheed Suhrawardy Biponi Bitan, Safe and Save, Khulna Shopping Complex, Darbesh Chamber, Esha Chamber, Akter Chamber, Samrat Bazar, Apex Gallery in Khulna city; Mortoza Mansion in Daulatpur upazila, Khalishpur Super Market, Phulbarigate Bazar Market and Shiromoni Boishakhi Super Market, UNB's Khulna correspondent saw most of the shopping centers and markets abuzz with Eid shoppers.

Kabir Hossain, a businessman, said, “I have bought clothes for children, men and women from Dhaka and displaying those in my shop. The turnout of shoppers is good this year, and it may see a bump after 15th Ramadan.”

Besides, many preferred to buy their desired clothes and other accessories before Ramadan to avoid Eid rush and hassle, he said.

Md Jahangir, owner of D-Rex Showroom, said, “Eid shopping has not yet started in full swing and I hope more people will buy clothes after 20th Ramadan. I have enough stocks in my shop.”

Sharif Morol, owner of Welcome Shoe shop, said, “Eid sales are improving every day, and I hope this time, we’ll be able to see good profits.”

Asma Khatun, a customer who came to New Market, said there is a huge crowd at the shopping malls and it is difficult to browse the shops with children.

Rahim, a daily wage earner, however said, “It is difficult for us to go Eid shopping at this moment. So, when I have some money, I will go to the market and try to purchase something for my children.” Eid
