Heavy pressure of vehicles on Dhaka-Tangail-Mymensingh highway

Gazipur, Apr 09 - Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways witnessed huge pressure of vehicles as the holidaymakers started leaving Dhaka and adjacent areas to celebrate Eid on the last working day on Tuesday.

Passengers from 22 districts of the northern region are rushing to their village homes to share Eid joy with their families through Chandra of Gazipur on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.

A long queue of vehicles was seen on the highway centering the Chandra three-intersection early Tuesday but now the situation is under control.

During a visit on the highway, the UNB Correspondent saw that a number of buses, trucks and pick-up vans are standing in rows for carrying northern region-bound passengers at Chandra point of the highway.

Traffic congestion was seen in many points in the morning while the passengers alleged about charging extra fare.

The situation on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway is also the same as the vehicles were seen passing slowly due to the huge pressure of vehicles at Chandona intersection.

Mahbub Alam, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said highway police, district police and traffic police, in coordination with others, are constantly trying to keep the traffic situation normal after deploying additional members and monitoring through CCTV cameras.

He hoped that the situation would be normal by noon.
