The Russian House in Dhaka hosted a large-scale festive concert on Friday to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Russian People’s Diplomacy as well as Bangladesh Victory Day. The open-air event at Rabindra Sarobar drew a crowd of more than 13,000 attendees.
The cultural program featured performances by leading Bangladeshi ensembles, including the Shilpakala Academy, popular band Sonar Bangla Circus, and the group Akaash & Co. The artists presented a blend of traditional and contemporary Russian and Bangladeshi music and dance.
Historical Bonds and Modern Bridges
The event highlighted the long-standing ties between Bangladesh and Russia, recalling the crucial diplomatic and strategic support extended by the USSR during the 1971 Liberation War — from the use of its UN veto power to active backing in securing Bangladesh’s international recognition.
Today, the relationship continues to grow, strengthened by more than 6,000 Bangladeshi graduates of Soviet and Russian universities who now hold key positions in the country’s economy, energy sector, science, and public administration. Russian nationals living in Bangladesh also contribute by mentoring young Bangladeshis and introducing them to opportunities in Russian education, culture, and high-tech industries.
Tribute to the Heroes of 1971
Speakers paid special homage to the young heroes of the Liberation War whose sacrifices laid the foundation of Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant: A Symbol of Strategic Partnership

The 2,400 MW facility is expected to provide stable and sustainable energy to support Bangladesh’s rapidly growing economy. The project also includes extensive technology transfer initiatives and comprehensive training programs aimed at developing the country’s national workforce.
