Dhaka, Sep 15 -A five member committee has been formed to investigate the massive fire that gutted hundreds of shops at Dhaka’s Mohammadpur Krishi Market early Thursday.

The committee headed by Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) department’s Director (Operations and maintenance) Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury was asked to submit a report within 15 working days, confirmed Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of FSCD headquarters (media cell).

The names of the other members of the committee could not be known immediately.

The fire broke out at the market around 3:43 am on Thursday and spread soon.

Seventeen firefighting units worked to fully douse the blaze. It was brought under control around 9:25 am.

WASA, Bangladesh Air Force, Army, Navy, BGB, and police assisted the firefighters in dousing the fire.

No casualties were reported until Thursday night.

Traders at the site said that there were 500 shops in the market. - UNB
