A polling centre set ablaze in Shariatpur

Shariatpur, Jan -6 - Miscreants set fire on a polling center in Naria upazila of Shariatpur-2 constituency on Saturday night.

No casualties were reported from the incident except burning three benches.

The incident occurred at Charmohan Sureshwar Primary School, a polling center in ward no. 3 of Gharishar union of Naria.

Noticing the fire, locals brought the fire under control immediately, said Gharisha Union Parishad Chairman Abdur Rab Khan.

Apart from the burning of three benches, there was no damage to the polling station, he added.

Shariatpur Superintendent of Police Mahbubul Alam said miscreants set fire to one of the 378 centers of the district by breaking the window glass. There was no damage to the center.

“Police and other law enforcement agencies have taken adequate security measures. I hope the election will be held in a conducive environment,” the officer added. - UNB
