A hotel fire in Bucheon, South Korea, has claimed the lives of seven people and injured 12 others. The blaze, which started on the eighth floor of a nine-story hotel about 25 kilometers west of Seoul, was extinguished roughly three hours after it began on Thursday night.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities reported that three of the injured are in serious condition. At the time of the fire, 27 guests were staying in the hotel, which has 64 rooms. Although the fire did not spread extensively, smoke inhalation was a significant factor in the casualties.
This incident follows another recent tragedy in South Korea, where a fire at a lithium battery plant in June killed 23 people.
