Dhaka, Mar 3 -- Five people sustained burn injuries in a fire at a scrap godown apparently caused by a gas cylinder blast in the Rampura area of the capital in the early hours of Thursday.

All the five are being treated at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. The identities of the injured couldn’t be ascertained immediately.

The fire broke out at 1.43am at the scrap godown near Bou Bazar Matir Masjid in the Rampura area, said Khaleda Yasmin, duty officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

On information, two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused around 2.30am, she said. "A gas cylinder explosion may have triggered the fire," she said. - UNB
