Helper dies after bus catches fire from mosquito coil in Khulna

A helper of a bus was burned to death in a fire reportedly originating from a mosquito coil inside the vehicle at Sonadanga Bus Terminal of Khulna, said police on Friday.


The fatal incident occurred around 2 am on Thursday, said Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga police station, reports UNB.

The deceased Md Shariful was the helper of Sundarban Paribahan and a resident from Munshiganj district, the OC informed.

Transport workers said Shariful fell asleep inside the bus after igniting the mosquito coal at night.

Later, the bus caught fire from the coil and it got completely burnt to ashes, they said.

Workers usually sleep inside the buses at night using mosquito coils and the incident of fire occurred several times, they informed.
