Child killed, 100 houses gutted in a Rohingya camp fire



Cox’s Bazar, Jan 17 – A five-year-old child was killed and 100 houses were burnt in a fire which broke out at a Rohingya camp in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Friday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The fire broke out at the Nayapara Mouchani camp G Block around 12 am and spread soon, said Mohammad Kawsar Shikdar, commanding officer and additional deputy inspector general of Armed Police Battalion-16.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame after one hour of hectic effort around 1 am.

Later, police recovered the charred body of the child.

Around 100 houses were burnt into ashes during the fire, he said.
