A fire that broke out in a leather godown of a six-storied building in the city's Hazaribagh area was brought under control this afternoon.

The fire originated in the godown situated on the fourth floor of Tannery Raw Market, Hazaribagh, around 2:15 pm, Fire Brigade and Civil Defence media wing officer Talha bin Zasim told BSS.

Everything on two floors (fourth and fifth) was gutted, he said, adding, however, no casualties were reported, he said.

Eleven firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 4:45 pm, the officer said.

The extent of the damage and cause behind the fire could not be ascertained without a thorough investigation, Talha added.
