A tragic fire broke out early Monday morning in the Bhuluar Dighir Par area of Chattogram, claiming the lives of two people and leaving three others severely burned, according to the Fire Service.

The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.

Md Mobarak, Senior Station Officer at Chandanpura Fire Service and Civil Defence, reported that the fire erupted in Jafar Colony, located at the western edge of Dighir Par under the Kotwali Police Station, around 6:30 AM.

Upon receiving the distress call at 6:42 AM, four firefighting units from Nandankanan and Chandanpura stations rushed to the scene. They successfully rescued five individuals trapped by the flames, Mobarak said.

The victims were transported to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, where two were declared dead from severe injuries, likely caused by smoke inhalation. The remaining three are currently being treated at the Burn and Plastic Unit.

According to the Fire Service, the fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit, and it was fully extinguished by 7:15 AM.

The fire severely damaged several rooms in five homes, destroying valuable possessions worth several lakh Taka.

Jafar Colony, home to a low-income community, is unfortunately no stranger to such disasters, with fire incidents reported almost every year, added Mobarak.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire as they continue to assist the affected families.
