Oil depot catches fire in Jeshore.

A 50-year-old man sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out at a fuel depot in Khedapara Bazar in Jashore’s Manirampur upazila on Thursday.

The fire broke out at the Tabassum Enterprise depot, injuring its manager, Shamsur Rahman, said the depot owner, Abdul Haque.

Safayat Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Manirampur Fire Service Station, said that fire service personnel responded immediately after receiving the news.

According to the depot owner, the manager was working on Thursday morning when the fire suddenly broke out around 10:30 am.

The manager sustained burn injuries while trying to extinguish the flames and was admitted to Jashore General Hospital for treatment, he added.

Haque also mentioned that the depot contained barrels of kerosene and diesel, along with several gas cylinders. In addition, a motorcycle, Tk 50,000 in cash, and other belongings were destroyed in the fire.

Firefighters from Jashore and Jhikargachha joined the efforts and worked for 45 minutes to control the blaze. He suggested that the fire might have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

Initial estimates put the damage at Tk 15 lakh, although the depot owner claims the loss to be Tk 30 lakh. - UNB
