Fire destroys umbrella factory in Khulna

A devastating fire gutted a umbrella factory at city’s Mirzapur area last night.


The fire broke out at Rahman Umbrella factory around 1.30 am last night and raged through the factory till the morning.

Fire service officials said the cause of the fire and extent of the damage could not be known yet.

Residents reported that the fire was originated from the umbrella factory on the third floor of the five-storey building. Other floors of the building were using for residential purposes. 

The blaze destroyed the third and fourth floors of the building along with some floors of an adjacent building.

Senior Station Officer Md. Zakir Hossain said eight firefighting units from Khulna Sadar, Tutpara, and Khalishpur rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 5 am in the morning, reports BSS. 
 
Several firefighters fell sick during the operation, he said.
