Internal Resources Division forms committee to probe Shahjalal fire

Dhaka, Oct 18 — The government on Saturday formed a five-member committee to assess the extent of damage caused by a fire that broke out at the cargo village area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

According to the Ministry of Finance’s Internal Resources Division (IRD), the blaze erupted around 2:15 pm in a courier warehouse within the airport’s cargo village. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to bring the situation under control.

Internal Resources Division  Joint Secretary Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Patwary is the Convener of the Committee.

The other committee members are- National Board of Revenue First Secretary Md Roich Uddin Khan, National Board of Revenue First Secretary Md Tarek Hasan, Dhaka Customs House Joint Commissioner Muhammad Kamrul Hasan.

Deputy Secretary of the Internal Resources Division Pankaj Barua will act as the Member-Secretary of the Committee.

The committee has been tasked with determining the overall losses incurred in the incident and submitting a detailed report to the government at the earliest possible time.

Meanwhile, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken special measures to ensure that import and export operations at Dhaka Customs House continue without interruption despite the incident, according to a press release. - UNB
