Firefighters brought a blaze under control within an hour after it broke out at the Chand Udyan slum in the capital’s Mohammadpur area this afternoon.

The fire erupted around 1:35 pm due to an electrical short circuit in a tin-shed shanty and quickly spread to six adjacent shanties, gutting a total of seven structures.

Two units from the Mohammadpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Station rushed to the spot and doused the flames by about 2:35 pm after intense efforts, reports UNB.

Rozina Akhter, duty officer at the Fire Service control room, told BSS that no casualties were reported in the incident.

According to fire service officials, the blaze caused damage estimated at Tk 2 lakh.
