46 fishermen arrested for fishing in the sea ignoring ban.
Patuakhali: Coast Guard members arrested 4 trawlers and 46 fishermen with 100 kg of marine fish for fishing in Bay of Bengal near Kuakata.
They were arrested from Char Bijay area of Bay of Bengal on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, senior upazila fisheries officer Apu Saha collected a fine of Tk 1 lakh 39 thousand from 18 fishermen. Later, fishermen including trawlers were released if they gave a bond not to fish during the prohibition period.
Meanwhile, the fishermen alleged that the Coast Guard members beat them up after arresting them. However, Nizampur Coast Guard Contingent Commander Matiur Rahman denied the matter. - Gofran Biswas
