25 kg Baghair fish caught in Padma

A rare-breed Baghair fish, weighing around 25 kg, was caught in the Padma river at Goalanda upazila .



A rare-breed Baghair fish, weighing around 25 kg, was caught in the Padma river at Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district on Wednesday morning.

Basudeb Haldar, a fisherman, netted the fish from the river at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat area of the upazila.

The whole fish was sold at Daulatdia fish market in an open auction Tk 25,000 in the morning.

Jahid Hossain, the buyer of the fish, said 'I bought the fish at the rate of Tk 980 per kg and I am communicating in different places. I will sell fish for a small profit.'Baghair fish is critically endangered in the country due to habitat loss and food scarcity.
