Public hearing held to recognise women fishermen in Kalapara.



Patuakhali: A public hearing was held in Kalapara of Patuakhali to seek recognition of women fishermen and priority in getting government services. The public hearing was held in Kalapara Press Club's Engineer Md. Tauhidur Rahman (CIP) auditorium with the financial support of the private development organization Nazrul Smriti Sangsad, Oxfam Bangladesh and the European Union and organized by the Upazila Citizen Committee.

President of the Upazila Citizens Committee journalist Shamsul Alam presided over the public hearing and local parliamentarian Md. Mohibbur Rahman Mohib spoke as the chief guest. Upazila Women Vice Chairman Shahina Parveen Seema, Executive Director of Nazrul Smriti Sangsad Advocate Shahabuddin Panna, President of Kalapara Press Club Md. Humayun Kabir, Journalist Mejbah Uddin Mannu, Amal Mukherjee and others spoke as special guests.

Speakers at the event demanded the appropriate authorities to take steps with the cooperation of MPs to ensure recognition of women fishermen and priority in receiving government services.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, MP Mohib said, "Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, is an exemplary woman leader all over the world. She is working for gender equality and women's rights. Therefore, by voting in the boat in the next election, Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina was again elected as the Prime Minister and received government services on a priority basis with the recognition of your women fishermen." - Gofran Biswas Palash
