4 of 2 families killed, 7 injured in Ctg landslides

At least four people of two families were killed and seven others injured in separate landslides during heavy rain in city's Akborshah area early today.

The deceased were identified as Md Liton, 23 and his younger brother Md Emon, 14, sons of Mojibur Rahman hailed from Kawkhali area in Phirojpur distrct, and Shahinur Akter, 26, and her younger sister Mainur Akter, 24, daughters of Fazal Hoque of Sadar upazila in Lakshmipur.

Confirming the matter to BSS, Wali Uddin Akbar, officer-in-charge (OC) of city's Akbar Shah thana said two sisters Shahinur and Mahinur died on the spot in the first landslide that took place in city's Barisal Ghona area at around 1am.

Their parents Fazal Haque and Moshara Begum also received injuries in the incident and they are undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), he added.

Besides, two brothers Liton and Emon were also killed in another incident of landslide that occurred at city's Bijoy Nagar area of Foy's Lake around 3:30 am, he added.

Five people were also injured and they are now undergoing treatment at CMCH, the OC added

Bishwajit Chowdhury, forecasting officer of Patenga Met Office told BSS that they recorded 65 mm rainfall in the past 24-hour till 9 am on Saturday.

Heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Chattogram and its adjacent district during the next 24 hours, he added.

Low-lying areas in Chattogram city remained water logging due to continuous rain from Friday noon to Saturday morning.

Agrabad CDA residential area, Shantibag, Beparipara, Halishahar, Bakalia, Rahatarpool, Bahaddarhat, Badurtola, Muradpur, Chawkbazar, Asadganj, Gate No 2 area, DC Road went under water by the heavy downpour said city residents, reports BSS.
