Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Public Administration H N Ashikur Rahman has stressed for flourishing enormous talent of the autistic and mentally retarded children.He said the autistic children must not be treated or considered as burden of the society and called for taking adequate steps to ensure their education and healthcare in congenial atmosphere for enabling them contributing equally to the nation.He was addressing a guardians’ rally arranged at Pairaband AMUS Buddhi Protibondhi School under Mithapukur upazila here on the occasion of observing founding anniversary of the institution as the chief guest on Saturday afternoon.Deputy Director of the Social Service Department of Rangpur Nazmun Nahar presided over the function participated by the teachers and students of the school, guardians, local public representatives, civil society members, professionals and elite.Managing Committee Member of Rangpur unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and its Acting President Rehana Ashikur Rahman and Assistant Secretary of the central Sub-committee of Awami League Rashek Rahman addressed as the special guests.Mithapukur upazila chairman Zakir Hossain Sarker, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Harun-Ar-Rashid, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Zahidul Islam and Principal of Zaigir School & College Tozammel Hossain were present.Founder and Headmaster of Pairaband AMUS Buddhi Protibondhi School Nasrine Dilara Afroz Pallabi delivered the welcome speech narrating activities in the educational institution established for the mentally retarded and autistic children.The chief guest called for treating autistic, mentally retarded and physically challenged children as integral part of the society as many of them have been proving ability and talent in education, sports and extra curricular activities like common children.He put special emphasis on establishing more educational institutions for the children with special needs to ensure adequate facilities and congenial atmosphere for flourishing their latent talent and ability to turn them into worthy citizens like the others.He stressed for creating congenial environment in the educational institutions for the autistic, mentally retarded and physically challenged children in mainstreaming them with inclusive education system also to ensure their equal human rights. -BSS, Rangpur
