OMS og good bt TVB

Jehangir Hussin

It’s very worrying to know that the authorities took no interest in taking action against the directorate general of food though the Comptroller and Auditor General’s office pointed out that it had sold rice worth Tk 59.33 crore to OMS dealers but did not deposit the money with the exchequer.

Definitely, this has tainted the government’s open market sales (OMS) programme.

There were also other irregularities in which about 1,000 tonnes of rice out of  20,226 tonnes alloted for Dhaka division was not given to the target groups.

The food directorate also could not show 198 muster rolls regarding the details of sale of 973.65 tonnes of rice by three offices under it.

These damning indictment call for action rather than hushing up.

The Daily Star deserves praise for exposing the irregularities.
