Morocco knocked the Netherlands out of the FIFA World Cup on Monday, winning a dramatic penalty shoot-out 3-2 after a 1-1 draw following extra time to book their place in the last 16.

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou once again emerged as Morocco's hero, producing crucial saves in the shoot-out before Ismael Saibari calmly converted the winning penalty to spark jubilant celebrations among the Moroccan players and fans.

The tightly contested encounter saw both sides create chances but fail to find a decisive breakthrough after finishing level at the end of 120 minutes. With neither team able to settle the tie in open play, the match was decided from the penalty spot.

Bounou, who has earned a reputation as one of international football's finest penalty specialists, made the difference by denying Dutch attempts, allowing Morocco to seize control of the shoot-out.

Saibari then stepped up to score the decisive penalty, sealing a 3-2 shoot-out victory and sending the Atlas Lions into the knockout stage.

The result marks another memorable World Cup achievement for Morocco, who continue to build on their growing reputation as one of the tournament's most resilient and disciplined sides.

Morocco will now face Canada in the last 16 as they seek to extend their impressive World Cup campaign and move a step closer to another historic milestone.
