Spain and Belgium will battle for a place in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals tonight in one of the tournament's most anticipated quarter-final clashes, with both European giants aiming to keep their title hopes alive.

The match has been widely billed as a potential "early final" after both sides produced impressive displays in the Round of 16. Spain secured their quarter-final berth by defeating Portugal, while Belgium thrashed the United States 4-1 in a commanding performance.

Spain have emerged as one of the tournament's standout teams, blending disciplined defending with their trademark possession-based style and rapid attacking transitions. Head coach Luis de la Fuente said maintaining concentration throughout the match would be vital against an experienced Belgian side.

"Belgium are a highly experienced and talented team. Even a moment of carelessness can prove costly, but we have confidence in our football. Our objective is to control the game and make the most of our opportunities," he told reporters ahead of the match.

He added that knockout matches are often decided by the finest margins.

"Small mistakes can make all the difference, so we must remain fully focused from start to finish," he said.

Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia also expressed confidence despite acknowledging Spain's quality.

"Spain are among the favourites, but we are not afraid of anyone. We will step onto the pitch determined to reach the semi-finals. Playing well alone is not enough—we also need the mentality to win," Garcia said.

Rejecting suggestions that reaching the quarter-finals already represented success, he added: "Our ambition is to go much further."

Spain are expected to rely on the influential midfield trio of Rodri, Pedri and Fabián Ruiz to dictate possession and control the tempo, while teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams will provide pace and creativity on the wings. Captain Álvaro Morata is set to lead the attack.

Belgium, meanwhile, will look to captain Kevin De Bruyne to orchestrate play, with veteran goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois providing stability at the back. Jérémy Doku and Leandro Trossard are expected to spearhead Belgium's counter-attacking threat.

Analysts believe the midfield battle could prove decisive. Spain are likely to dominate possession, while Belgium will seek to exploit spaces with quick transitions and swift counter-attacks.

Spain have been among the tournament's strongest defensive teams, conceding very few clear-cut chances, while Belgium have demonstrated clinical finishing in the knockout stage.

With a coveted place in the World Cup semi-finals at stake, another high-quality contest is expected, where tactical discipline, composure and moments of individual brilliance could ultimately determine the winner.

Probable line-ups:

Spain: Unai Simón; Dani Carvajal, Robin Le Normand, Aymeric Laporte, Marc Cucurella; Rodri, Pedri, Fabián Ruiz; Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Álvaro Morata.

Belgium: Thibaut Courtois; Thomas Meunier, Wout Faes, Jan Vertonghen, Maxime De Cuyper; Amadou Onana, Youri Tielemans, Kevin De Bruyne; Jérémy Doku, Loïs Openda, Leandro Trossard.
