Hamza leaves Leicester for Sheffield United

On Monday, the 28-year-old midfielder signed an initial one-year contract with the Championship club, subject to league clearance. Known as ‘The Blades’, they are currently competing in the second tier of English football.

Hamza spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Sheffield, becoming a popular figure among the supporters. He made 19 appearances in all competitions and played a key role in helping the Blades reach the Championship play-off final.

Sheffield boss Chris Wilder was delighted to bring back his former player.

“We all know how well Hamza can perform in this role. The physicality and energy he showed during his first spell was something the supporters really enjoyed,” Wilder said to club’s website.

He added: “Hamza has won the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester, so he knows what it takes to succeed at this level.”

Additionally, the right-footer also played under Wilder during his loan spell at Watford during the 2022-23 season.

Hamza was equally excited to return to Sheffield. “I spent 20 years at Leicester, so leaving is a big change for me and my family. But I am ready for a new challenge,” he said.

He joined Leicester’s academy at seven in 2005 and made 165 senior appearances, scoring three goals. He was part of the club’s historic 2021 FA Cup-winning side and helped Leicester win the Championship title in 2023/24.

After making three appearances for Leicester the following season, the Bangladesh mid-fielder now begins a new chapter at Sheffield United.
